Vintage Turkmen Tribal Jewellery Ring with 4 Large Bells
This unusual old Turkmen (Turkoman) ring was handcrafted during the mid-1900's for the nomadic tribes of Turkmenistan in Central Asia.
It has the classic hallmarks of the Ersari Turkmen sub-tribe, with its bold design, clean lines, and surface gilding.
A red beads in a raised bezel sits in the center, strategically placed to ward off the evil eye.
4 large bells hang from the corners, making a clattering sound
when the hand moves.
The design is of 2 sets of double-headed eagles
- a favored motif in Central Asia intended to protect the wearer from harm through continued vigilance.
This is a sturdily constructed ring and does not bend. Wear patterns and a warm age patina remain after many years.
Large rings like this were also worn in the hair, with braids or locks threaded through the opening.
Comes in a gift-box.
