Shiva Bheru Old Silver Pendant from Northern India
This 3-dimensional silver pendant was handcrafted in Northern India in the early 1900's of quality silver. It depicts Lord Shiva in his fiercely protective form as Bheru. Despite its age, the pendant is in excellent condition with crisp detail.
This is a hefty well-made pendant with a solid silver back - not a lightweight stamping. It has a warm age patina, and traces of red vermilion powder in the crevices from years of loving wear.
Amulet pendants like this that commemorate important Indian heroes, events, and deities are called “Pathri.” They are worn throughout the country by men, women, and children for protection and as a form of tribute. Bheru is especially beloved by the Bhil tribe, who form a large population of India.
India enjoys a rich cultural and religious heritage going back for thousands of years. As always, please consult an expert in the field for exact interpretation and to verify iconography.
