Tibetan Tribal Woman's Silver Lhatse Knife
This Lhatse Knife was handcrafted in the Himalayas during the 1900's as a traditional Tibetan Nomad Woman's Tribal Utility Knife. It has a deceptively delicate silver scabbard that houses a strong steel blade.
Knives like these were typically worn at the waist attached to a belt (see images). They were invaluable to a woman's daily daily life, serving double duty as an ornate embellishment and a ready tool.
The ornate silver scabbard on this Lhatse Knife holds an array of symbolic images combined with natural Turquoise and Red Coral cabochons. The large Turquoise stone in the center sits in a silver lotus blossom...a sacred symbol in this region, often associated with the Buddha and his teachings.
The scrolling floral designs on all silver surfaces symbolize unity with the natural realm in which we all reside. The casing accents are of shagreen, or horse hide prepared in the classic Tibetan application.
Measurements:
Size = 8 inches long x 2-1/8 inches wide (1 inch = 2.54 cm)
Blade = 3-1/2 inches long
Weight = 5.3 oz
