This extraordinary large antique Turkmen Yomut (Yamot) Tribal Jewelry Necklace is over 100 years old and in Museum Quality condition. It was skillfully handcrafted of Silver with Gold-Gilded medallions strategically placed throughout the entire piece in classic Yomut fashion. Multiple Carnelians sit in raised bezels, adding color and dimension, while promising to ward off the evil eye.
The main pendant is of 2 stylized eagles facing in opposite directions - a traditional motif and said to protect of the wearer from harm. Distinctive Turkmen bells hang below, making a wonderful sound with movement. A rich age patina remains intact, having been gently rubbed to reveal an incomparable luster below.
In addition to wearing as a necklace, jewelry like this was often worn attached to two braids along the back of head. Turkmen are notorious for generously embellishing all surfaces of the body with large, elaborate jewelry, and this necklace is no exception.
