Vintage Gujjar Tribal Jewelry Earrings
These extra-large vintage Afghan dangle-earrings were
handcrafted during the mid-1900's the nomadic Gujjar (Gurjar) tribes near
Jalalabad in Central Asia.
They are old tribal jewelry earrings - not new
reproductions.
MEASUREMENTS (1 inch = 2.54 cm):
Size = 6 inches long x 3-1/2 inches wide at widest part
Weight = 5.5 oz
Earwire gauge = 12 gauge, thickness of wire that passes through earlobe piercings
Materials = Glass beads, Metal
Distinctively Gujjari, these large hoop-earrings have beaded
accents and long charm-dangles that clatter below.
Accents of beaded-filigree adorn each of the large hoops.
They were sturdily made with stiff 12-gauge earwires. Please
note that at 12-gauge the earwires are significantly thicker than
standard-sized earwires and will not fit through regular small earlobe
piercings.
Note also, that the earwires face the same direction, which is frequently the case with large-gauged tribal earrings.
Instead passing the earwire through the earlobe, large
earrings like these were usually worn attached to headdresses, locks of hair,
or circling around the entire ear itself.
In excellent condition, they have mild wear-patterns and a
warm age-patina acquired over the years.
