Large Waziri Kuchi Vintage Afghan Necklace - Tribal Jewelry Choker
This dramatic extra-long vintage Afghan tribal necklace was
handcrafted during the mid-1900's for the nomadic Kuchi tribe of Waziristan in
Central Asia.
It is an old tribal jewelry choker - not a new reproduction.
MEASUREMENTS: (1 inch = 2.54 cm)
Length = adjustable with ties (tied at 15 on manikin)
Front Drop = 6-3/4 inches (distance between edges at center front)
Weight = 1 pound + 2.5 oz
Shipping weight = 1 pound + 8 oz
Material = Glass beads, Metal, Cord, Cotton lining
The wide neckband on this large choker necklace has a series
of distinctively-Waziri beaded starbursts spanning the front.
Lots of ornate pendants with colorful-clusters of round beads rim the neckband.
Characteristically Waziri, a wide double-fringe of long bell-dangles hang below, clattering noisily together with movement to alert admirers and scare away demons.
A newer cotton lining with ties on the sides allow for adjusting the length
as desired (tied at 15 inches on manikin image).
This is a very well-made heavy choker-necklace, with mild wear patterns and
a warm age-patina remaining after so many years.
Comes in a gift-box.

About WAZIRISTAN: Once part of the opulent Mughal Empire,
Waziristan now belongs to the Tribal Areas in eastern Afghanistan and
northwestern Pakistan.
It was named after the Wazir tribe who lived there for
centuries.
Like so many other regions in this part of the world,
Waziristan has experienced years of recent turmoil and difficulties, especially
in its more remote areas.
Its prior heritage, however, was that of wonderfully vibrant
arts and skillfully crafted jewelry. ©
