Large Vibrant Waziri Kuchi Vintage Tribal Jewelry Necklace
Vintage Kuchi Necklace with a row of large blue and red beads set in ornate sun-shaped bezels running across the neckband. Below hang multiple beaded pendants, charms, and lots of long bell dangles that make a wonderful sound with movement.
Extra-long dangles like these are a hallmark of Waziri (Afghan) Kuchi Tribal Jewelry. This elaborate colorful necklace was handcrafted in the mid to later 1900's.
The neckband has a newer black-cotton lining, and a braided tie on either end to adjust the necklace to the desired length. Very well made in excellent condition.
About Waziristan: Once part of the opulent Mughal Empire, Waziristan now belongs to the Tribal Areas in eastern Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan. It was named after the Wazir tribe who lived there for centuries.
Like so many other regions in this part of the world, Waziristan has experienced years of recent turmoil and difficulties, especially in its more remote areas. Its prior heritage, however, was that of wonderfully vibrant arts and skillfully crafted jewelry.
