Large Silver Nepalese Pendant on Black Cord
This large double-sided Silver Pendant was skillfully handcrafted in Nepal with Kirtimukha on one side and an ornate stylized design on the other.
It is studded with a large natural Turquoise cabochon, Turquoise mosaics, Coral and Amber. Warm patina on both sides. Hangs on 5 mm thick black cord.
About Kirtimukha: Kirtimukha, the face of glory appears as a head without a body. He originates from Tibetan Hinduism, where it is believed that he was created from a blaze of Shiva’s third eye. One story says that Shiva created him specifically to avenge a wrong.
Kirtimukha was so set on achieving the mission for which he was created, that when Shiva changed his mind at the last minute, Kirtimukha devoured his own body in frustration until only his head remained.
A fierce protector, the image of Kirtimukha’s head often decorates armor, shields, and weapons. His image is regularly placed over Temple doorways, arches, and pillar cornices throughout the Himalayas. Kirtimukha is sometimes compared to Chhepu, another Tibetan deity without a body; Chhepu holds a snake in his mouth, whereas Kirtimukha will have a string of beads.
