Old Silver Amulet Pendant from Northern India
Pendants like these are called Pathri. They are worn as amulets by women, men, and children throughout Northern India as a form of tribute and protecting the wearer from harm.
This unusual old silver Pathri depicts the feet of Vishnu (Vishnupadam) - a blessing from the gods. A coiled serpent symbolizes the presence of a guide for getting through the perils of life, as well as protection against snake bites.
This Pathri Pendant was beautifully handcrafted in the early 1900's from 90% silver. It has crisply detailed designs and a warm age patina intact. A previous owner wound threads around the large bail which have been left in place.
This silver pathri amulet sits on a twisted black cord for immediate wear. Traditional, collectible, wearable Old Silver Pathri Pendant from North India.
India enjoys a richly diverse cultural and religious heritage that goes back for thousands of years. As always, please consult a religious expert in the field for exact interpretation and to verify iconography.
