Bhumiya Raj Old Silver Pathri Pendant from Rajasthan India
This large antique pendant shows the image of Bhumiya Raj, a legendary and beloved hero from Rajasthan India who died in battle defending his village and saving all those who lived there. His deified spirit is said to ride at night throughout the villages of Northern India, protecting the people there from evil forces and thwarting their enemies.
Pendants like these are called “Pathri.” They are worn throughout India by men, women, and children for protection and to honor ancestors. This is a beautiful and solidly well-made large old silver (90%) Pathri pendant handcrafted in Northern India in the early 1900's. It has has an unusual graceful shape and a large triple-loop bail for hanging on a favorite ribbon, chain, or cord. The 3-dimensional images are still clear and brisk, with a warm patina and traces of red vermillion rubbing powder in the crevices from years of loving wear.
