Large Old Silver Hanuman Jewelry from Northern India
This is a very large solid-backed silver pendant handcrafted in Northern India in the early 1900’s. It is in excellent condition, with crisp details and warm age patina intact. It hangs on a simple black cord, in traditional style. Collectible, wearable old Tribal Jewelry from Northern India.
This wonderful old pendant depicts Hanuman, a much beloved Hindu monkey-god. Hanuman's boundless feats and selfless character are celebrated in the epic Ramayana that describes his super-human actions performed in his devotion to Ram. He symbolizes our better selves…of loyalty, selflessness, and an unflagging dedication to others.
India enjoys a wonderfully rich cultural and religious heritage that goes back for thousands of years. As always, please consult an expert in the field for exact interpretation and to verify iconography.
