Unusual Old Turkmen Tribal Jewelry Personal Pendant

Traditional Personal Pendants like this Old Turkmen piece were worn throughout Central Asia for centuries. An accessory for grooming, they were worn on cords and chains as elaborate embellishments.

This wonderful Personal Pendant was made in the mid to early 1900's, before the initiations of the 1960's ban on making local Turkman jewelry. It was sturdily handcrafted, with the classic Turkmen red eye-shaped bead in the center.

Eye-shaped beads were believed to ward off any evil eye directed towards the wearer, and red is a particularly powerful color. A rich age patina remains, that has been lightly rub-polished to reveal the color the red bead and the luster below.

We include a twisted black cord for wearing in traditional fashion, or string on your favorite chain, ribbon, or cord if preferred through the secure bail.
