Vintage Turkmen Beaded Yurt Ceiling-Rafter Hanging

3-dimensional Turkmen (Turkoman) tribal Yurt decorations like this one were strung from the ceiling rafters, hanging down to offer good fortune to all in the room. Three large beaded triangles are joined together, forming an open protective pyramid. 

This unique hanging was handcrafted in the mid to late 1900’s using the yellow beads favored in this region intended to ward off the evil eye. Traditional designs of rams horns, stylized ulzii (endless knots), and triangles offer the promise of abundance and well-being. 

The colorful tufted dangles along the lower border add the element of movement, as they catch the rafter breezes. Folds flat for convenient storage during yurt relocation.
