Turkmen Traditional Embroidered Cap (Taqiyah) Head Wear
Beautifully embroidered Turkmen Caps (Taqiyah or Tahya) like this one are worn throughout Central Asia. They are worn equally by men, women and children so as to perch on top of the head rather than pulled down over it.
This cap has been skillfully hand embroidered, including the quilt-stitched Russian Cotton lining that gives it extra structure and comfort. As seen here, designs often mimic geometric or floral patterns that may be identified with a specific group or clan.
The brightly-colored embroidery on this cap was created by a highly skilled hand using a dense chain-stitch in cotton and wool blend threads.
This is a wonderful example of a Turkmen Takiyah cap with small tight stitches that is in excellent condition.
