Turkmen Traditional Embroidered Cap (Taqiyah) - Vintage Tribal Head Wear
This beautifully embroidered vintage Turkmen (Turkoman) Cap (Taqiyah or Tahya) was handcrafted during the mid-1900's in Turkmenistan, Central Asia.
Skillfully hand-embroidered using a dense chain-stitch of silk and wool-blend threads, the designs are associated with the artisan's tribal group or clan.
It was lined with cotton that has been reinforced with stitching, creating a cap structure that holds its shape. It is in excellent
condition with only mild wear patterns.
Caps like this one are
worn equally by men, women and children in this region. They are
traditionally perched on top of the head rather than pulled down over
it.
Women and girls often decorate their caps with jewelry to create elaborate headdresses and give extra height.
