Old Swat Tribal Long Enamel Afghan Ring
This unusual long Afghan Swati Tribal Ring was handcrafted of colored enamel over metal in the mid to early 1900's. It is a traditional ring from this region, always crafted with a Deep Blue background as a tribute to Lapis Lazuli - a prized gem stone found in this region.
Elliptical Rings (Pattis) like this were usually worn on either the index (first) finger or the small finger as a "pinkie ring". The long front is gently rounded to fit the contours of the finger. A warm age patina remains intact.
The band is adjustable, but currently set smaller to be worn on the small finger.
For Collector's, please reference Anne Van Custen's book A World of Rings, published 2000 (translated).
