Vintage Forehead Pendant - Large Floral Bejeweled Phul Tika

This large eye-catching Tika is from Kashmir at the foothills of the Himalayas in Northwestern India. It is called a Choti Phul or Sisphul because it resembles a golden chrysanthemum (“Phul” means “flower”).

To wear as a necklace: The small hook at the top that attaches to the hair can be easily closed into a loop, or removed entirely for hanging this Tika on a chain, ribbon or cord to wear as an exquisite necklace. If you would like us to change the hook into a loop for you before shipping, please indicate that in the comments section of your order.

About Forehead Pendants (Tikas): Among the many fascinating kinds of Tribal Jewelry is the Tika, or forehead pendant that is worn throughout India and Central Asia. Tikas are composite ornaments that are made by combining a small chain with a hook at one end and a pendant at the other. The pendant is worn over the exact center of the forehead where the spiritual “Ajna” chakra resides. Heightening the Ajna chakra is believed to safeguard the wearer from chaos; it also signifies a perfect union between the transcendent male and female elements of nature and spirit.
